Creating a Judging List

It is the nightmare that every show holder has to face...unless you've managed to persuade people to judge individual sections for you this is something you are going to have to deal with!

But do not worry! Here is my handy guide to creating your judging list.

Step 1

The first step is to make sure you have a clear spreadsheet set up with your entrants names and information, just like this:

Step 2

The next step is to add columns with numbers corresponding to your schedule. We have 1-145.

Step 3

The next step is to black out the names of anyone who can't judge or who hasn't given you a judging list.

Step 4

Use the judging lists you've been given to mark what classes people can judge. I tend to put an 'X' in the boxes where someone cannot judge and leave the others blank.

Step 5

Use a notepad to create a list of entrants initials, put the number of their row next to their initials. That will make it easier for you to write your list.

Step 6

Use your running order to create a spreadsheet. You need to have everything split up by ring. Make sure to include the class numbers and class names. You can see an example one below:

Step 7

Set up your screen so you have each spreadsheet side by side.

Step 8

Use your list to work out who can judge each class. The best thing to do is work down the list, so start with class number one and add the first person in. Then work across the rings so you don't have one person judging in the same ring at the same time!

Step 9

When you put someone down to judge a class put a tally mark by their name.

As you work out the list try to even it out, so you give everyone the same number of classes to judge. The tally is there to help you make sure you do this!

Step 10

Keep going, working slowly and methodically, filling in everyone's names until the list is complete.

Step 11

You need to make sure everyone has an even number of classes to judge. If at the end you have uneven numbers then go back and do some swapping.

In this case we swapped out a class that JH was judging and put DH as the judge to make it even.

Step 12

And you are done! Share it with your entrants before you print it off so you know whether you need to make any changes!

10 Model Horse Half Term Projects

If (like me, loving this school holiday work schedule) you are on half term right now you will suddenly find yourself with lots of spare time (unless you have exams of course, in which case why are you reading this? You should be revising! Go make a cup of tea and get back to work, YOU CAN DO IT YOUNG POTATO).

OK inspirational exam talk over. Let's have a look at some fun projects to keep you occupied over the holidays :)

1. Cataloging

No automatic alt text available.

It needs doing! Stop putting it off! Get that collection catalogued. If you want to learn how to put together your own spreadsheet check out this tutorial here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/chestnutridgemodels/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10154186797211482

2. Create a FB Page/Website for your Models

What could be more fun than your own website/blog/facebook page devoted to your model horses! Maybe you will do one for your custom studio or your stud or maybe just a fun place to share images of your models. If you do create one let me know and I'll share it with the followers :D

3. Write up Your Show Results

Image may contain: horse

9. Have a Clear Out

Dig into that body boxes, or those boxes and boxes of tack and have a bit of a clear out. Maybe you could put some items to one side to donate to a raffle at your next show? Or sell off some unwanted projects to raise some money for a new horse!

Classic Nylon Halters

Someone requested we offer these months ago and I'm ashamed to say I've only just got around to adding them to the website!

No automatic alt text available.

I whipped up a nice purple one for this Shire today to act as the example piece.

Image may contain: horse

And you can find them for sale here: http://www.chestnutridge.co.uk/rope-halter-42255-p.asp

Image may contain: shoes

P.S. We recently had issues with a lot of our photographs being used elsewhere and so I've started to watermark everything, hence the addition of the CR logo! Yes it's an easy one to remove but I don't think the person who was taking them had the greatest level of intelligence, hopefully it should at least make it obvious. If I have to properly watermark in future, I will.

Uniquely it was requested to be made for a Breyer heavy horse, Daisy rather likes it, she wonders whether she could be a barrel racer?

Love Hearts Live

No rest for the wicked! Yesterday we headed off to Kent for Love Hearts Live, a really small live show right on the coast (as you can see).

You can find the full photos here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155137327880155.1073742040.689360154&type=1&l=7586230e62

We arrived early so decided to take Brandy for a quick walk along the cliffs, there was a beautiful view

Although Brandy was insistent that absolutely nothing bad would happen if she jumped off...

Anyway eventually we headed back to the hall for a very late start, I didn't get many pictures as I was showing rather a few too many horses, but here are a select few.
