Celebration of Breyer II

 Did you enjoy our first photoshow of the year? If you did then get ready because Celebration of Breyer II will be starting shortly!

This is the second show in our model horse photoshow series for Breyers only. If you have kept up to date with our updates you will know that this year marks 10 years since Chestnut Ridge started stocking Breyer horses. To celebrate we are running four shows through the year:

1. Celebration of Breyer I - Photoshow for Traditional scale model horses (January 2025)

2. Celebration of Breyer II - Photoshow for other scale model horses (May 2025)

3. Celebration of Breyer Live - Live show for Breyer model horses (August 2025)

4. Celebration of Breyer III - Photoshow for Stablemate scale model horses (September 2025)

Our first show was a great success with 5880 entries over the four sections.

We are expecting this show to be a bit smaller but I'm sure you all have some amazing model horses to bring out and show. This show is for 'other scale' model horses and will be for any Breyer horses that is not Traditional or Stablemate scale.

Classic scale Breyer horses are perfect for this show.

What is 'Other Scale'?

Other scale refers to any Breyer horse that is not Stablemate or Traditional scale. The show includes plastic and CCR Breyer models.

There are four main scales that will be shown:

1. Classic/Freedom Series (1:12 scale)
2. Paddock Pal (1:24 scale)
3. Mini Whinnie (1:64 scale)
4. 'Foals' (1:6 scale)

Any Breyer Gallery piece that does not fit within Traditional/Classic scale and also isn't one of the scales listed above would also go into this show.

We expect most of the entries to be Classics, Paddock Pals and Mini Whinnies but I'm hoping for a few Foalzillas!

Think about which models you want to enter - this model would be perfect for the Partbred Arabian class

The Prizes

Each section champion will receive a £10.00 Chestnut Ridge voucher!

These will be sent via the private messaging system on OMHPS and are valid both in person and also on the Chestnut Ridge website (www.chestnutridge.co.uk)

The Sections

This show has four main sections which are:

1. Breed
2. Collectability
3. Performance
4. Workmanship

Breed

Breed classes are split by breed and are judged on breed standard as well as all the usual judging criteria. There are a variety of classes to suit all models including an other animal class for non-equine models.

Collectability

The collectability sections are split by breed type and then the classes are split by run type. They will be judged on the collectability of the models. Please ensure to include as much detail as possible to save me time when judging :)

Performance

Performance sections are split by discipline. They will be judged on the accuracy of the set up including realism and adherence to the rules of the relevant discipline. 

Workmanship

Workmanship classes are split by colour. These will be judged on the quality of finish but also the realism of colour. These are effectively 'colour' classes as I appreciate there's no real workmanship for OF models!

BreyerFest Fun Week 2023

 It's everyone's favourite time of year! It's BreyerFest Fun Week!

We have seven days of awesome competitions this year to help you celebrate BreyerFest wherever you are.

Each day from 10th of July onwards we will have a different competition running on our Facebook page. The competitions are free to enter and open to all.

This Year's Prizes

This year we will be giving away goody bags again! The bags will each be different but here is an example of one of them:

They will each contain an assortment of products including model horses, hobby supplies and a few cute gifts. Each goody bag will be different and there is no guarantee as to what you'll receive.

Please make sure that if you win a prize you actually give us your address! Two people last year never claimed their prizes :(

The Competitions

OK now onto the fun stuff! What competition are we doing each day?

Monday - Guess the Surprise

Monday's competition is always a popular one, guess the surprise mould!

Comment on the Facebook post which mould you think the surprise model will be. Winner will be chosen at random from all correct guesses.

Tuesday - Auction Sale Price

This year's chosen auction model is Lot #17 the Lonesome Glory

Again you will just need to comment on the Facebook post how much you think he will sell for. The closest guess will be the winner

Wednesday - Best Meme

It's a meme off! Post your best model horse meme (created by you) in the comments. I will pick my favourite.

Thursday - Treasure Hunt

This year's treasure hunt will be a little different. Ten clues will be posted throughout the day. Follow the clues to find the answers. Combine the clues to help you figure out which BreyerFest model is the secret model. You will need to answer this one via email to prevent any cheating!

Friday - Driving Photoshow

This one day photoshow will have a 'driving' theme. Enter one photo and we will place to 6th place. The 1st place winner will get a prize.

Saturday - Puzzle

Saturday is another favourite. There will be a puzzle for you to complete. Again you'll need to email the secret answer to prevent cheating!

Sunday - Colouring Contest

Another favourite, our Sunday colouring competition will be a chance for you to express your creativity. If you want to start early this year's image is below:

Marvellous May Postal Show

Choose The Colour Auction

This will be run through Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chestnutridgemodels

There will be 25 horses up for auction.

For each one you will get to pick one of four colours to have the model painted to. These are different for each model. 

You won't get to know exactly what your horse looks like until you receive them! How exciting is that? We will pick the markings and exact shade for each horse. You just pick the colour :D*

Auction Start Time: 19.00BST

Auction End Time: 22.00BST

You place a bid by commenting below each lot. The bidder with the highest bid when the auction closes will win the auction and be sent an invoice. Bids can be retracted up until the point at which the auction ends. After the auction ends all bids are binding and buyers have 24 hours in which to pay. If payment is not received within 24 hours then the item will move to the next highest bidder.

*we will send you over images of the completed horse and although we won't make changes to the colour we will want to ensure you are happy. You are entitled to request 'breed standard' markings (e.g. no white on an Exmoor model), just let us know when you pay.

Our live judging workshop is back!

 I do apologise that I have not been on top of making sure there are updates about our ongoing shows in here. I promise to do better in future!

For those who don't know what Popular Votes Photoshows is, it is a Facebook group that has been running since 2015. We run a different show each month. Each show is judged by group members, who like each others photos in a set window of time. The horses with the most likes win their class and go into a championship! Champions get a rosette sent to them and get to be the cover photo for the next month.

BreyerFest Fun Week 2020

It feels slightly strange writing this as it shouldn't be happening this year. But instead here I am writing it and trying to make it bigger and better than ever! I think we all need cheering up and Chestnut Ridge is here to MAKE YOU HAPPY. So be happy. No choice. Forced fun.

Please note - this is nothing to do with the official BreyerFest and is not endorsed by them in anyway. It's just a bit of fun run by the UK model horse community each year.

OK so normally we just do a few competitions and giveaways and things, but this year I've decided to make it bigger and better! So as well as competitions and giveaways we have some weird and wonderful other things for you to get involved in.

All live events will be run the Monday-Thursday so that they do not clash with any official BreyerFest events.

Each day all you will have to do is comment for your chance to win the item. There will be a total of seven items to give away!

Daily Trivia/Competitions

On our Facebook page we will be running daily trivia/competitions. This is basically what we normally do. We normally ask people to do things like guess the amounts produced of certain models or the surprise model so I haven't concluded what we'll do this year but I'll think of something!

Model Horse 'Pub Quiz'

Please note changes.

The Pub Quiz will be held on Zoom and there will be no prizes offered. I have toyed with how I can make this work, I want to make it fun and interactive but also fair.

This is why I have changed it to a Zoom call. This will allow everyone to take part and actually interact with each other! It will make it more fun :)

To help prevent cheating or upset there will be NO PRIZES! So cheating will just make people angry at you and you will gain nothing from it. Also bare in mind you are on camera!

Grand Photoshow

The Grand Photoshow is up and running and ends on July 12th. There are some awesome prizes and rosettes and it is completely free to enter.

They will be priced at £35.00 each and will be wrapped up so even I won't know what you are getting!

Auction Night

During our Auction Night you will have the chance to purchase 25 items as part of 99p start auctions. These will include a mixture of OFs, CMs, ARs, CTFs and Tack as well as some bundles or more unusual items.

20% of the money raised will be donated to The Bail Project: https://bailproject.org/

NB: A few items will be 100% charity listings will all the money raised being donated to the Bail Project. If you would like to donate an item as part of this please let me know.

Market Night

Our Market Night will be run on another evening. This is your chance to get your paws on a selection of really cool items! They will be first come first serve.

There will be fifty items available as part of our Market Night sale.

Again this will be a mixture of items.

Zoom Social

Our Zoom Social will be open to all model horse hobbyists over 18 years of age. Come together, have a chat, share some painting tips or just talk about whatever it is you guys talk about at live shows.

Over 18s only for a reason. People never behave.

Introduction to the Hobby Seminar

This is an extra special seminar for BreyerFest Fun Week. This seminar will go through all the different elements of the model horse hobby, explain to you some key terms and tell you how you can get involved. It's designed for newcommers but will be suitable for all.

As part of our BreyerFest fun this year we are running our Grand Photoshow again! This huge photoshow is completely free to enter and comes with some awesome prizes :)

The show is open to anyone, regardless of location and you can enter in lots of different ways. The easiest way to enter is to upload your photos into the relevant albums on the Facebook group but you can also enter via Instagram, Email or Post. This means that literally anyone can enter, you don't even need a computer!

There are no individual class entry limits on this show but there is a maximum of 50 entries. The nice thing is that this suits all types of showers, if you have a really specialist collection you can still do the same number of entries as someone who has a more diverse collection. But with well over 100 classes you'll have to think carefully about who to enter!

What Kind of Photos Can I Enter?

Someone asked me this on Instagram and the real answer is any. But your photos need to be clear and show off your model. You can use a light tent or similar or you can set up a realistic background shot like the one below. But is the one below clear? Do you think the model really pops? These are some good things to think about when you are taking your pictures.

If you use props etc. make sure they are in scale with your model and don't distract. Scale is particularly important when it comes to performance entries.

What Will I Win?

There will be printable certificates for placings and champions.

Section & supreme champions will also get rosettes made by the amazing Inspirations Rosettes

Anyone who gets a rosette will also get a Mini Whinnie Surprise Bag.

I have also been completely taken aback by people randomly offering to donate prizes! So there are also going to be some really awesome prizes available :)

How Long Have I Got?

You will have until the 12th of July to enter! So please get on and enter as soon as possible. I don't want people forgetting!

Who Will be Judging?

I will be judging the whole show. Because I am a masochist.

Body Transformation Challenge 2019

This month's competition is a little different. We are giving you the chance to get creative and show off your skills.

So How Does it Work?

Ten people will be given a chance to take the challenge (chosen at random from all those who enter). You will each receive a randomly allocated body quality model horse (see the image below).

You will then have until May 31st 2019 to transform your model.

Once complete send one image of your model to competitions@chestnutridge.co.uk

Fans of Chestnut Ridge on Facebook will then have one week to vote for their favourite.

There will be rosettes from 1st-10th place and a trophy for the champion.

You can then do what you like with your model but we recommend you sell it to raise money for charity, donate it to a raffle or give it to someone special. Of course you could also keep it!

The deadline for forms is Monday 15th April 2019.

If you do not live in the UK you will be responsible for postage costs for your body.

We will choose 10 people at random on Monday April 15th and allocate their bodies. All bodies will be shipped Monday/Tuesday (if you live internationally you must pay for postage promptly).

Please note - if you entered in 2018 and DID NOT complete your piece you are are NOT entitled to enter this year as per the rules. If you entered in 2018 and DID complete your piece you are more than welcome to enter.

Completing Your Piece

If you are lucky enough to be chosen it is up to you what you do with the model.

But remember....the deadline is May 31st 2019!!! You MUST have an image submitted by that date or you will forfeit your chance to take part.

Once complete please send one photo to competitions@chestnutridge.co.uk

Please do not share 'in progress' shots of your model on social media or anywhere else public. This enables the vote to be as unbiased as possible.

The Voting

On the 1st of June for one week fans of the Chestnut Ridge Facebook page will have one week to vote for their favourite.

You cannot vote for your own horse or offer incentives to vote for you.

The winner will be the person with the most votes. In the case of a tie the winner will be chosen by Catriona Harris of Chestnut Ridge.

The Bodies

There are ten bodies available which will be randomly allocated

The bodies are all in tact but in varying condition with different brands, materials and finishes. The aim is to transform YOUR body into something amazing. So don't be disheartened if you don't get the one you want! See it as a new challenge.

Popular Votes Photoshows - April 2019

I am pleased to announce that April's model horse photoshow is now OPEN!

This month the theme is 'resin and china'. The show is open to any model horse or equine that is made of resin or china. This includes commercial resins and chinas as well as artist resins and chinas.

There are 24 classes including a breed, performance and fun section. You can enter up to 6 models per class so there is plenty of potential to win!

Finally a massive congratulations to BFS Sally Delighted owned by Jennifer Tomey who was March's champion (the theme for March was 'other animal'). I personally love this shot and am so glad that others voted for it as well! It will make a great cover shot for the following month.

BMECS Fun!

It's that time of year again :D With just one week to go we have a range of fun and games both for those attending and not attending BMECS this year!

Guess the Champion

Each year on Facebook we ask you to guess what breed/colour/performance type you think each champion will be and this year is no different.

From Monday - Friday we will put up posts for each section. All you have to do is comment underneath what you think will win.

We will choose a winner randomly from all those with correct answers and they will win an extra special prize, I'm not revealing what the prizes are this year but they are pretty cool :D

Win a Schleich Quarter Horse Stallion

This guy has been sat on top of the cabinet in my study for the last month. As I was removing another Quarter Horse stallion for shipping he managed to escape from his packaging. I did think about keeping him but as it is buckskin month this month and I needed a competition prize what better way of finding him a new home than a fun like and comment competition on Facebook :D



I will warn you though he is rather naughty. Having escaped his packaging he has done a bit of cabinet diving, knocked over another model horse and thoroughly made a nuissance of himself by chatting up all the RubberNedz mares. I do not want any little Quarab foals anytime soon so he better get to a new home!
